Kane County Chronicle honored by Illinois Press Association

The Kane County Chronicle earned eight awards in the 2020 Illinois Press Association’s newspaper contest.

Reporter Brenda Schory won second place for her series on an abandoned dog in North Aurora who found a new home.

Reporter Eric Schelkopf won fourth place for his coverage on last year’s Black Lives Matter protests, and fourth place for spot news photo of a car on fire in Aurora after riots related to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Photo editor Sandy Bressner won several awards, including second place for an online series for her collection of photos of senior citizens helping other seniors during the pandemic.

Bressner also won second place for a photo of Batavia’s Seniors Helping Seniors program, third place for her feature photo of a local high school graduate, third place for her portrait of empty churches and fourth place for her photo series of essential workers.
