RV fire damages detached garage in Antioch

A recreational vehicle parked outside a detached garage at an Antioch home likely sparked a Sunday night fire that caused about $50,000 in damage, Antioch Fire Protection District officials said.

The fire was reported about 9:40 p.m. on the 25000 block of West Catherine Avenue by both the homeowner and neighbors, fire officials said.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported a recreational vehicle engulfed in flames which had extended to the exterior of the garage, causing damage to the siding.

The adjacent house, which is undergoing a remodeling, suffered minor fire damage to construction wrapping on the facade, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported in the blaze that took about three minutes to extinguish. Firefighters were on scene for about an hour afterward performing overhaul operations and investigating the cause.

The garage was determined to be safe to enter, but investigators still are trying to determine what caused the RV to ignite.
