The Bureau Valley baseball team's season ended with a loss to Rockridge in a Class 2A Princeton Regional semifinal Thursday.
Rockridge defeated Bureau Valley 9-4 on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Princeton High School. Rockets will play Monmouth-Roseville in the title game at 1p.m. on Saturday.
Area teams including Marmion Academy, Rock Falls, Sandwich, Sterling, Dixon, Mendota, Plano, Sycamore, Wheaton Academy and St. Francis were at Sycamore High School Thursday to compete in the IHSA Class 2A boys track sectional.
Hall hired Logan Larson as its next football coach. Larson, 29, played football at Southeast Missouri State and has been a high school assistant for six years, including the last three at Athens where he helped the Warriors to a Class 2A state title game appearance last fall.
Mendota freshman Mariyah Elam is tied for the top seed in the high jump entering the Class 2A state meet. L-P's Elli Sines and Aubrey Duttlinger and Princeton's Camryn Driscoll and Morgan Foes also will compete at state.
La Salle-Peru, Coal City, Morris and Streator all sent state qualifiers out of the Class 2A Pontiac Sectional contested under the lights Wednesday night.
Princeton kept up the pressure all game long, and eventually it paid off Wednesday in its 2A Rock Falls Regional semifinal. The Tigresses had baserunners in all but one inning, and they finally broke through with runs in each of the final three innings to top Rock Falls 3-2.

L-P defeated Morris 1-0 in the Class 2A Regional semifinal game at the L-P Athletic Complex on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in La Salle. L-P will play Morton in the title game on Friday at 4:30p.m.
