Student of the Month: Haley Kirk,
Dixon High School

Haley Kirk, 17, is Dixon High School's March student of the month. She lives in Dixon with her father and stepmother, Daniel Kirk and Dee Valentino, and her two brothers, Conar Kirk, 13, and Riley Kirk, 3. Her mom, Lynette Kirk, also lives in of Dixon. She has three stepsiblings, Alyse Lafuira, 21, and Sam Lafuira, 18, both of Carol Stream, and Nick Lafuira, 26, of Chicago.

Favorite class: Art. I've liked art since I was little, and I really like the teacher, Mike Olson.

Top teacher: My Spanish teacher, Wendy Fitzanko. She's just really funny and personable and likes to make sure that everyone's learning.

Extracurriculars: Scholastic Bowl, Student Council, National Honor Society, Drama Club president, Madrigals and Jazz Choir.

After graduation: I'm looking at three colleges. I'm thinking about [majoring in] Spanish or theater or art, depending on where I go.

BFF: Krista Sheley. She has no problem being her own person.

Hearts: I love Chinese food.

Darts: Math class. I find it really tedious.

Haunts: Friends' houses, the park at Jefferson Elementary School, and I like to make Wendy's runs for Frosties. I also like to hang out down at the river during summertime.

Survival guide: Don't let the little things bring you down.

Useless knowledge: All the trig functions.

I'm in the dictionary next to: Dramatic. I'm always over the top with everything, but, at the other end of the spectrum, I can take things way too seriously.

Secret twin: Mara Wilson, the girl who played Matilda. I used to look like her when I was really little.

Dream job: I'd be a tour guide in some exotic place.

Trading places: I'd like to be Tyra Banks on "America's Next Top Model." It's one of my favorite shows.

Trading spaces: I guess, really, anywhere in Europe. I've never been there.

Read this: "Wuthering Heights," by Emily Bronte. All the characters in it are really nasty, but it's a lot of raw human emotion.

Shout out to: All my grandparents.
