STERLING – Michael C. McGarvey, 16, of Sterling, formerly of Morrison, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009.
He was born Aug. 30, 1992, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Danny and Kay (Sanderson) McGarvey and was currently a sophomore at Newman Central Catholic High School, Sterling. Michael was an avid reader and loved to play basketball, play the saxophone, and write poetry. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Morrison, where he was a past altar server.
Surviving are his parents, Danny and Kay; his brother, Jordan McGarvey at home; his paternal grandmother, Joy McGarvey of Morrison; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Dorothy Sanderson; and his paternal grandfather, Harry C. McGarvey.
Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, 500 Avenue B, Sterling, with the Rev. Donald Ahles, pastor, and the Rev. William Collins and the Rev. David Finn con-celebrating. Private family burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory to Newman Central Catholic High School would be appreciated.
