MOUNT MORRIS – Dorothy A. Fiscel, 96, of Mount Morris, formerly of Nachusa, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Pinecrest Manor, Mount Morris.
She worked in the office at the Nachusa Lutheran Home for Children for 35 years, before her retirement in 1988.
Dorothy was born June 3, 1913, in Miamisburg, Ohio, the daughter of Earl and Pearl (Timmons) Stevick. She married Melvin L. Fiscel on Feb. 15, 1940, in Miamisburg, Ohio. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1990. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1990.
Dorothy was a member of Franklin Grove Church of the Brethren for more than 50 years. She was a 62-year member of Dorothy Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as worthy matron in 1951.
Music played a major role in her life, and she played the organ for Dixon Church of the Brethren, Franklin Grove Church of the Brethren, Order of the Eastern Star, and many weddings, funerals, and other events.
Survivors include one niece, Julie Gatz (Michael) Hardesty of Chana; three great-nieces, Dana Garman, Teri McParland, and Tracy Seamon; two great-nephews, Scott Garman and Eric Smith; and her friend, Earl E. Delhotal of Dixon.
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with the Rev. Richard Bright, chaplain at Pinecrest Manor, Mount Morris, and the Rev. Stan Rodabaugh, pastor of Dixon Church of the Brethren, co-officiating.
Burial will be at Emmert Cemetery, Nachusa. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
