ROCK FALLS – Ruth L. Coleman, 89, of Rock Falls, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Franklin Grove Nursing Center. She was a homemaker.
Ruth was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Sterling, the daughter of Ward and Verda (O’Hare) Hartshorn. She was united in marriage to Glenn E. Coleman on Jan. 6, 1946, at Rock Falls United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2004. Ruth was a member of Rock Falls United Methodist Church, Miriam Circle, Friendly Neighbor’s Club, and CGH Ladies Auxiliary.
She enjoyed knitting, gardening, and mowing her yard. Ruth adored her grandchildren, loved her family, and was most happy when entertaining and cooking a meal for them.
She worked at Green River Ordnance during the war.
Survivors include one son, Robert (Mary) Coleman of Harmon; two daughters, Sally (Phil) Tarvin of Dixon and Sue Wolf of Harmon; grandchildren, Leslie (Ryan Smith) Coleman of South Korea, Shelby Coleman of Grinnell, Iowa, Steven (Jennifer) Keegan of Bolingbrook, Mathew Keegan and Kristi Keegan, both of Dixon, Angie (Brad) Howard and David (Jennifer) Wolf, both of Rock Falls, and Michael (Nicole) Wolf of Normal; and great-grandchildren, Zackary Keegan, Michael Kascel, Rylan Kascel, Joshua Howard, and Brooke Howard.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Terry Wolf; and brother, Williard “Bud” Hartshorn.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Moe, pastor of Rock Falls United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial of cremains will follow Coloma Township Cemetery, Rock Falls. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American Heart Association, Lee County 4-H, or to the the donor’s choice.
