Face time with Linda McFadden

Linda McFadden, 73, of Geneva, was working at her business, Past Basket, on Third Street, when Kane County Chronicle reporter Brenda Schory asked her 11 questions.


Where did you grow up? I was born in Estonia, lived in Germany for five years, moved here when I was 13, grew up in West Bend, Wisconsin, went to Milwaukee Downer College and then got married and moved to Cedar Lake, Wisconsin, Barrington and now Geneva for 33 years.

Immediate family? Husband of 50 years, three grown children and four grandchildren.

Pets? A golden-doodle named Rudy.

What's the last song you listened to on purpose?
"New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra.

What is in your garden? I have a garden with no grass. All I grow is groundcover and ivy all over my house.

Favorite charity? Saving Tiny Hearts Foundation.

Last best book you read? "Good Morning, Beautiful: Winning the Battle over Seizures" by Paulette George. 

Hobbies? The whole start of the business is I am a collector of everything. And then my husband wanted me to clean up our garage 33 years ago and so I said I would have a store. And that is still ongoing.

Favorite food? Smoked salmon.

Favorite local restaurant? Moveable Feast in Geneva.

What is an interesting factoid about yourself?
Having lived through the end of the Second World War is an accomplishment. I speak Estonian, German and English.
