STERLING – Dorothy (Overcash) Peoples, 88, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Coventry Living Center, Sterling.

She was born Jan. 5, 1922, in rural Lee County, the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth (Coats) Overcash. She graduated from Fairview Grade School and from Sterling Township High School, class of 1939. She married Edward Peoples on Sept. 20, 1941, in Sterling. He died in January 1946.

Dorothy was employed by Middleton Coca-Cola, as a bookkeeper for many years, and was later employed at the Public Aid office in Sterling. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and photography. She was involved in several civic organizations, including Business and Professional Women’s Club, Altrussa, and The Salvation Army, and was a PADS volunteer for 10 years. She was an active member of East Jordan United Methodist Church for more than 60 years.

Surviving are her sister, Marjorie Peoples of Sterling; five nieces and nephews, Ruth (David) Rodekamp and Brooke (John) Caudillo, both of Sterling, Mary Jo (Tom) Babler of Naperville, and Kym Overcash and Gary (Terry) Overcash, both of DeForest, Wis.; nine great-nieces and great-nephews, Jennica (John) Smoke, Matthew (Karen) Rodekamp, Sarah (Michael) Bathan, Luke (Tracy) Babler, Jamie (Tom) Richards, Travis Rodekamp, Lori Schroud, Chris Overcash, and Amanda (Jeremy) Espinoza; and 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Elizabeth, Cara, Kennedi, and Emilee Richards, Bethany and Brett Smoke, Eden and Claire Rodekamp, Michaela, Sam, and Riley Bathan, and Adeline Babler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Glenn; one sister, Mary Alice; and one nephew, Lynn Overcash.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at East Jordan United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Revs. Fritz Bartles and Thomas Babler co-officiating. Burial will be at Reformed Mennonite Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
