Geneva resident Lori Schmidt was at Peck Farm Park in Geneva to see the Butterfly House when she answered nine questions from the Kane County Chronicle's Brenda Schory.
Where did you grow up? Northfield.
Pets? A guinea pig named Oreo and an aquatic frog named Dotty or Spotty – we're not sure which. We had two, but one of them died. So either Dotty's alive or Spotty's alive.
Who would play you in the movie of your life? I would.
First job? A day camp counselor.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to be an artist, then I wanted to be a teacher, but my father said no to both. He said I had to do something where I'd make money. So then I studied anthropology. Little did he know anthropologists make zero money. I got my master's degree in teaching, and I was a teacher. I taught fourth grade for 10 years at Davis School in St. Charles. Now I'm home with my kids.
Favorite charity? Salvation Army.
Hobbies? Gardening, flowers, vegetables.
Favorite local restaurant? Bien Trucha in Geneva.
What is an interesting factoid about yourself? I am an artist. I do pencil drawings. I am an artist in the background. My dream – when kids are grown and out of the house I will have my own studio.
