STERLING – Bernice G. Miller, 95, of Sterling, formerly of Polo, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. She was a homemaker; farmed with her husband; and was head of housekeeping at KSB Hospital, Dixon, before retiring.
She was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Nelson, the daughter of Victor and Effie (Talmadge) Schick. She married David A. Miller on Nov. 19, 1936, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1966.
She was a member of Brookville United Methodist Church; Ogle County Homemakers; and Farm Bureau. Bernice was an avid reader and an excellent pie baker. She enjoyed playing cards and games with her family.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Duane) Schupbach of Thomson, Oliver (Margaret) Miller of Girard, Joan Wubbena of Dixon and Tom (Cindy) Miller of Stillwater, Minn., daughter-in-law, Cindy Miller of Polo; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ellen (Edgar) Engelkens of Freeport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by one son, James Miller; sons-in-law, Leonard Wubbena and Herman A. Ukena; and brothers, Lester and Harry Schick.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Jones Funeral Home, Dixon. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, with Jerry Martz officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon.
