STERLING – Clifford E. Johns, 92, of Sterling, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He worked at Kraft Foods in Milledgeville.

Clifford was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Rippey, Iowa, the son of Everette L. and Leone P. (Chambers) Johns. He served in the Army. He married Lila Anderson on Aug. 4, 1942. She preceded him in death in July 1973. He then married Jane Herriot. She also preceded him in death. Clifford was a member of Milledgeville Methodist Church and Sterling American Legion Post 296.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty J. Hook of Polo; four stepchildren, Mike (Lorena) Herriot of Colorado, Dan (Val) Herriot of Oregon, Rhonda (Tom) Satterfield of Pacifica, Calif., and Al Herriot of Racine, Wis.; one sister, Darlene Read of Elizabeth; four grandchildren, John Hook of Minneapolis, Jeffrey (Julie) Hook of Alexandria, Minn., Suzanne (James Lawson) Hook of Dixon and Howard (Nancy) Hook Jr. of Hanover, Minn.; seven stepgrandchildren, Patrick, Deena, Libby, Nick, Joel, Brian and Laura; and four great-grandchildren, Darren, Ashley and Ivan Hook and Rachel Hoelscher.

He also was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Judd, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Sterling, officiating. Burial will be at South Elkhorn Grove Cemetery in Milledgeville.

A memorial has been established.
