SUBLETTE – Peter G. Dinges, 94, of Mendota, formerly of Sublette, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Mendota Lutheran Home.
Peter was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Sublette, to Fred and Helen (Kuebel) Dinges. He married Alberta Gallisath on Jan. 18, 1939, at St. Mary Church in West Brooklyn. She died July 7, 2009.
Pete was a lifelong farmer in Sublette who raised Hereford cattle and hogs. Many of his calves were used for local 4-H projects.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Sublette; Knights of Columbus, where he was a fourth degree Knight; and the Mendota Elks and Mendota Moose.
He was a 4-H leader of the Sub-let Indians. He also was a director of the Sublette Farmer’s Elevator, and a committeeman of the Farm Service Agency.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald (Vicki) and Robert (Linda), both of Mendota; one daughter, Patricia (Mark) Chamberlain of Bloomington; nine grandchildren, Michael Chamberlain, Anne Campbell, Philip Chamberlain, Ryan Chamberlain, Matt Dinges, David Dinges, Todd Dinges, Jason Dinges and Jennifer Lindhorst; and one sister, Marian Hochstatter of Mendota. Grandpa Pete also is survived by eight great-grandchildren, Drew, Davis, Brady, Liam, Connor, Jemma, Theo and Caden.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clarence Dinges; and a sister, Dorothy Zinke.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with the rosary recited at 4:30 p.m., Friday at Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Sublette.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sublette.
