Margaret ‘Peg’ Taber

MILLEDGEVILLE – Margaret “Peg” Taber, 91, formerly of Plainwell, Mich., Kalamazoo, Mich., and Winter Haven, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Margaret was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Plainwell, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Ellen (Mattson) Norman. She married Willis L. Taber of Fulton, N.Y., on Nov. 13, 1944, in Galesburg, Mich. They celebrated 61 years of marriage. He died Jan. 30, 2006. Margaret was an elementary school secretary for Plainwell School District for 5 years. She then worked as a receptionist with Master-Craft Corp. in Kalamazoo, Mich., for 20 years.

She and Bill retired in 1984 to Florida. They spent a warm and sunny 20 years there. In October 2004, following the wrath of three hurricanes, they relocated to Milledgeville. Margaret enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader for a few years prior to going to work full time.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon (Jerry) Anderson of Milledgeville; one son, Willis Taber Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kammie (Bill) Tipton of Lithia Springs, Ga., Marcie Schwartz of Dixon and Karl (Jodi) Grauman of Moyock, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Cremation rites have been accorded. There are no services. Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory in Milledgeville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established to Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon and Happy Tails Animal Shelter in Rock Falls.
