Dr. Daniel Jurak has been appointed to the board of directors at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. His appointment increases the number of physicians serving on the hospital board from two to three as a result of a recent change in the board by-laws.
Dr. Jurak is family medicine physician who practices full time in Coal City. He joined the medical staff at Morris Hospital in 1994, and has served in a number of leadership roles over the past 18 years, including vice president of the medical staff in 2000-01, president in 2002-03 and 2006-07, immediate past president in 2004-05 and 2008-09, and chief of family practice in 1997, 2010 and 2012.
Bruce Baker, chairman of the board at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, said Dr. Jurak was recommended for the position by peer physicians who served on the board nominating committee.
“Dr. Jurak is a long-standing, well-respected member of the medical staff who has served in multiple leadership roles over the years,” Baker said. “As a result of his previous leadership roles, he is familiar with the operations of the board, and he has continually demonstrated an interest in helping set the future direction of Morris Hospital.”
“We believe that expanding the number of physicians who serve on the Board has its distinct advantages,” Baker added. “Not only does it help to further strengthen the relationship between the board and the medical staff, it also gives board members an even greater physician perspective, which is crucial with today’s ever-changing health care environment.”
Dr. Jurak agrees having more physician representation on the board of directors has its benefits.
“It’s important to have input from both the business and physician perspective,” Dr. Jurak said. “For me, personally, it’s a privilege to be part of a small group of individuals who have responsibility for steering the future direction of Morris Hospital.”
Dr. Jurak and his wife, Laura, live in Morris and are the parents of two sets of twins, ages 13 and 14.

The board of directors at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is made up of 12 volunteer members. The board is responsible for providing oversight and governance to ensure quality care and adherence to the hospital’s mission, setting strategic direction for the hospital, and overseeing hospital policies and financial matters.
