NSGL hosts summer picnic at Nunn Beach

Last Friday Naval Station Great Lakes (NSGL) hosted a command picnic at Nunn Beach on the shores of Lake Michigan. The weather was perfect and over 215 sailors, civilians and family members enjoyed the afternoon festivities.
    The menu for the afternoon consisted of hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, chicken and meatballs along with assorted desserts.
    MM2 Shannon French and ET3 Theresa Posey took first and second place in a baking contest.
    The picnic also included a variety of games such as volleyball, horseshoes, tug of war, bean bag toss and lawn golf.
    NSGL commanding officer Capt. Randy Lynch used the event to present awards. They included:
    •    Civilian of the Quarter 4th Quarter 2011, and Civilian of the Year 2011 to Eric Weaver.
    •    Civilian of the Quarter 1st Quarter 2012 – William Miller (Non-Sup.) and Gregory Devries (Sup.)
    •    30 Years of Service – Kathryn Herr and Ann Swanson
    •    25 Years of Service – Keith Grisset, Thomas Jones, Robert Smith Jr., and William Wheat
    •    20 Years of Service – Andrew Arndt
    •    15 Years of Service – Shane Ratcliff and John Sulicz
    •    10 Years of Service – Beth Sleeth
    An event like this could not take place without volunteers and below is a list of those who contributed to the success of the picnic:

     "We had maximum participation from the command and also celebrated Capt. Lynch's birthday with a cake. It was a good time, and we had a ball," said QM2 Timothy Standish, coordinator for the picnic.
