SYCAMORE – A DeKalb man charged with sexually abusing a family member remains in jail on $50,000 bond.
Roberto F. Montoya, 57, of the 500 block of Knolls Street West in DeKalb, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. If convicted of one count, he could face three to seven years in prison.
Montoya appeared in court Wednesday via closed-circuit TV from the DeKalb County Jail. According to court documents, Montoya inappropriately touched a female family member younger than 13 on July 23.
DeKalb police Lt. Jason Leverton said the girl and her mother approached police about the incident. Leverton said it seemed the conduct occurred once, and Montoya doesn’t appear to have any similar charges in his background.
“We don’t see this as any type of long-term type of event,” Leverton said.
A warrant was issued Tuesday for Montoya’s arrest.
Presiding Judge Robbin Stuckert said Montoya cannot have contact with the minor or any unsupervised contact with children younger than 18 if he posts bail. She said she would give him time to look into posting bail and hiring an attorney.
Montoya will appear in court again Monday.
