Theodore M. ‘Ted’ Peterson

PROPHETSTOWN – Theodore M. “Ted” Peterson, 79, of Prophetstown, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed from this life on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Ted was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Morrison, the son of Raymond and Emma Peterson. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1951. Ted married Nancy J. Seger on Nov. 23, 1956. He was self-employed in painting and decorating for 41 years. He most recently carried rural mail for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in November 2011.

Ted served his country in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He served the city of Prophetstown from 1981 to 2001, as an alderman for 16 years and mayor for 4 years. Ted devoted much time and energy to his community.

He was a member of Prophetstown United Methodist Church and Prophetstown American Legion. He enjoyed many interests including the sport of hunting in the fall and coaching baseball in the summer months. Ted had a special place in his heart for all dogs. Never was there a more dedicated Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Ted is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; daughter, Maris Peterson; son, Joel (Kim) Peterson; grandchildren, Maggie, Jack and Jonah; sister, Florence Francis; and nieces and nephews.

Ted’s family wishes to thank the many friends who supported him through his illness, especially with their visits.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m., Thursday at Prophetstown United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Arrangements were completed by Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Erie.
