ROCK FALLS – Bond likely will be set today for a parolee charged with attempted murder for, police say, trying to run down an officer as he was arresting him on drug charges.
In addition to attempted murder, which carries 6 to 30 years in prison, Donte Brown, 31, is charged with delivery of a controlled substance.
Police were trying to arrest Brown and Allison Dragojevich, 18, both of Peoria, at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday in the 1300 block of Prophet Road in relation to a drug deal, Cmdr. Tammy Nelson said.
Dragojevich got out of Brown’s car and Brown drove off, nearly hitting the officer, who got out of the way and was not injured. Nelson declined to name the officer, or give any details about the drug deal.
Brown was arrested in the 600 block of Seventh Avenue after a brief car chase, according to police.
Dragojevich also is charged with delivery of a controlled substance.
Brown was paroled in April after serving a little more than 3 years of a 10-year sentence for selling drugs in Whiteside County. He also has convictions for aggravated fleeing, failing to report an accident, and obstructing justice.
He has Cook County convictions for possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated vehicular hijacking.
