McHenry Goodwill customers donate to food pantry

McHENRY – Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois recently completed its second annual donation drive at its McHenry store to benefit the FISH of McHenry Food Pantry.

Goodwill customers of the store, 2006 N. Richmond Road, were asked to bring in non-perishable food items, non-food items, and cash donations.

“We would not be able to continue to meet our community’s needs without the support of our staff, neighbors and local businesses who donated to this special cause,” said Ed Antczak, Goodwill’s McHenry store manager. “With the compassion, generosity and teamwork of these great supporters, we were able to provide for many families in need this year.”

Goodwill was able to present FISH (Friends In Service Here) with a check for $2,500 and a mixture of non-perishable food items and non-food items. Because of these donations, FISH was able to feed and provide personal goods to more than 650 families in December. It also was able to provide all of their families extra holiday food boxes at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

“FISH of McHenry Food Pantry is very fortunate to have businesses and members of our community that recognize the importance of working together to take care of the disadvantaged,” said Andrea Franzen, director of FISH of McHenry Food Pantry. “Ed and his staff have supported us the last two years by organizing a food drive and raising monetary donations that involve the community and the employees of Goodwill. With their support we are able to continue to serve the nearly 600 families we serve each month. We thank the employees of the McHenry Goodwill for their faithful support.”

FISH of McHenry Food Pantry, 3515 N. Richmond Road, McHenry, is an all-volunteer service organization that functions 100 percent on donations and support from the community.
