STERLING – Carl McDonald, 78, of Sterling, went to be with his Lord on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, following a short illness at his winter residence in Elkton, Fla., surrounded by family.
Carl was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Iuka, the son of Frank and Edith (Sinclair) McDaneld. He married Eileen Gilley on Jan. 23, 1954, in Tampico. Carl retired from Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. after 30 years of service. He greatly enjoyed being outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Carl was a member of the Morrison Gun Club and Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling.
He leaves behind his wife, Eileen, of 59 years; two daughters, Janice Attebury of Sterling and Jill (John) Beatty of Elkton; four grandchildren, Nicole Slack, Stacie Dao, Eddie Fritz, and Joshua Fritz; eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Kaitlin, Justin, Terri, Peyton, Jaiden, Brandon, and Hunter, all of Florida; and two sisters, June Finley of Odin and Betty Sitson of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nancy Weingartner of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
