Jane Addams' Trey Mack earns all-star nod

BOLINGBROOK — Trey Mack, an eighth grader at Jane Addams Middle School in Bolingbrook, has been selected to participate in the seventh annual 8th Grade Junior Prospects Boys All-Star Basketball Game Saturday, April 13 in Decatur.

The eighth grade Class 3A and 4A All-Star game will tip off at 7 p.m. at Eisenhower High School. The event will include halftime three-point shooting, slam-dunk, free throw, and skills and drills contests.

The 5-foot-11 Mack, a straight-A student whose favorite subject is math, is the first middle school basketball player in Valley View School District 365U history to play for three teams that won state trophies. The Addams seventh-grade squad finished second in state when he was in sixth grade, the eighth grade squad finished second in state last year, and this year's eighth grade squad finished third in state in dramatic fashion.

Mack's two free throws with two seconds left broke a 46-46 tie to give Addams a 48-46 victory over Liberty Junior High of New Lenox in the third-place game.

Mack, who scored a game high 18 points, came up big down the stretch, scoring on a 5-footer to make it 38-36 Mustangs and then hitting a crucial three-pointer with 2:27 left in the game to tie the score at 41-41. A Cameron Harris bucket and a Harris put-back had Addams up 45-41 before Liberty hit a bucket and two free throws to tie it again at 45-45. Each team hit a free throw in the closing minute before Mack's heroics.

Other scoring for the Mustangs came from Calvell Randall (10), Joseph Yesufu and Harris (seven each) and Dominic Kimek (six).

Other members of the Addams team members included Capri Stewart, Matt Bielawski, Cameron Faulk, Mark Bennett, Jack Eken, Antwon Allen, Cameron Harrell and Nana Akenton. The team was coached by Josh Gage and Jared Ploger.
