Neil Carr

WALNUT — Neil K. Carr, 78, of Walnut died on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois.

Neil was born on Aug. 8, 1934. in Mendota, the son of Delbert and Velma (Wixom) Carr. He was united in marriage to Carol M. Zumdahl on March 29, 1958. in Mount Morris. She preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 1997. He then married Mildred (DeSplinter) Powers on Dec. 21, 2002, in Walnut.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958. Neil farmed for 48 years. retiring in 2007. Neil was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church, Walnut American Legion Post 179, and the Happy Hookers Fishing Club. He was an advocate antique tractor enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Millie Carr of Walnut; two sons, Roger K. Carr of Russiaville, Ind., and Dean (the late Margo) Carr of Bloomington; one daughter, Julie (Greg) Jamison of Princeton; five grandchildren, J. D. Carr of Bloomington, Mackenzie Waters of Indianapolis, Ind., Turner and Austin Jamison, both of Princeton, and Jiliane (Matt) Johnson of Galva; two brothers, Allen Bruce (Rose) Carr of Yuma, Ariz., and Delbert (Linda) Carr of Walnut; two stepdaughters, Sherie (Jerry) Verdick of Port Byron, and Julie (Pat) Donovan of Walnut; one stepson, Mark Powers of Grayville; two stepgrandsons, Matthew Donovan, and Brandon Donovan, both of Walnut; four stepgranddaughters, Jessica Verdick of Davenport, Iowa, Devon, Whitney, and Natalie Powers, all of Grayville; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Zack Donovan and Lexi Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one twin daughter, Judy.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Walnut First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gale T. Brandner, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the Walnut American Legion Post 179.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
