April Student of the Month Thomas Clemens

Dixon student plans to study biology at U of I

DIXON – Senior Thomas Clemens, 17, is Dixon High School’s April Student of the Month. His parents are Alan and Amy Jo Clemens, and he has a younger brother, Nicholas, and an older sister, Emily.

Favorite class: Biology II with Mr. Jeffrey Clark, because I love science and he teaches it well.

Top teacher: Mr. Frank Cahill for science, more specifically medical biology. He is a good teacher because he is very friendly and relaxed and teaches a challenging class in an easy-to-understand way.

Extracurriculars: I was a captain in soccer. I'm on the tennis team, and I was the statistical secretary for Key Club and the Tail Twister for Leo Club this year.

After graduation: I will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this fall to study biology.

Paycheck: I sadly don't have a job.

Favorite singer or musical group: Mayday Parade.

Favorite actor: Viggo Mortensen.

Favorite TV show: "The Walking Dead."

Favorite food: A barbecue pulled pork sandwich or Kraft Stove Top Stuffing.

Favorites musicians? Adam Levine and Usher are my favorite to listen to. They both have voices of pure gold.

Biggest fear? Bilbo Baggins' face in "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring" when he sees the ring around Frodo's neck. That's ridiculous.

Pet peeve? When performing live, or watching a live musical performance, and the audience claps along with the song. Rarely does it stay at the right time or on the actual downbeats.

Haunts: I spend an obscene amount of time at Town & Country. The food is to die for, and the atmosphere is wonderful.

I'm in the dictionary next to: Musical; I love to play the drums, guitar, saxophone, piano, and sing. Also, I think I frequently remind people of that in class as I tap the drumbeats and hum melodies, which a lot of people don't appreciate.

Personal trivia: I'm a closet nerd. I play my GameCube and my Zelda games more than I watch TV.

Dream job: I would love to try being a morning radio talk show host. They just have a great time and all they have to do is talk about random topics and interview celebrities.

Trading places:  With Justin Timberlake, because he is funny and talented and rich, and everybody loves him. I would probably do a gig somewhere and sing all of his old songs, because they are so groovy.

Trend you wish would go away: I wish people would watch less TV. It's just a huge waste of time that you could spend actually interacting with other humans.

Favorite website: I spend many hours on Iwastesomuchtime.com, which is horribly accurate to its name.

What would you do if you had $100,000? Randomly give out far too much money, like tip an extra few hundred dollars at dinner, or let a hot dog vendor keep the change from a hundred. Just to see how happy people become.

What do you wish your high school offered?: Latin.

What's a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier?: High school is the time when you have the least responsibility in your entire life. No house to pay for or a bunch of taxes to pay or a long job to do. Just appreciate what you have, and don't rush through it.

Shout out: My Nana and Tata Magdich, I love you!
