PALO ALTO – Injuries have forced Toni Kokenis to put an end to her basketball career, according to the Stanford University athletics website.

Though her playing career is over, Kokenis will remain with the team during her senior year this year as she works toward a degree in human biology.

"Toni Kokenis has been an integral part of our program's continued success and even though she won't be on the court, we know she will continue to provide leadership and guidance to our team in her new role," Director of Women's Basketball and head coach Tara VanDerveer said. "We are saddened that this injury has ended her playing career, but we all know that this is the right decision for Toni's long-term well-being."

An Oak Brook native and Hinsdale Central graduate who continued her career at Stanford, Kokenis ended her career Friday. She suffered a concussion in spring workouts in 2012 that limited her time on the court. She suffered another concussion in February and missed the final 14 games of the 2012-13 season with the Cardinal.

In three years with Stanford, Kokenis helped lead the Cardinal to two Final Fours (2011 and 2012) and the Pac-12 Conference regular season and tournament titles three times. She was Pac-12 all-conference as a sophomore in 2011-12 when she averaged 9.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Kokenis started 57 of the 91 games in which she appeared, averaging 7.7 points and 2.4 assists per game. She shot 39.3 percent from the field and drained 66 3-pointers during her career.
