GENEVA – For those who always wanted to try theater but were not sure how to go about it, the Geneva Park District is offering a free behind-the-scenes look at its new Playhouse 38, 524 W. State St., Geneva.
Superintendent of Recreation Nicole Vickers said the public is welcome to come to its free demonstrations from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday to take a tour and meet the district’s five theater instructors.
The five instructors will be offering a mixture of classes in the fall including stage acting, directing, stage makeup, backstage work, auditioning, music of Broadway, improvisation, scene studies and monologues, Vickers said.
“Everything from theater production,” Vickers said. “All five instructors will be on board both of those days. People can come for the whole three hours both days or drop in for a little bit.”
She said the park district will host two fall productions – one for children and one for adults – where these classes will help prepare novices for what they might encounter.
“We’re kind of getting their feet wet a little before diving into a full production,” Vickers said.
The children’s production is “Comic Book Artists” for participants ages 8 to 18. The adult production is “It’s a Wonderful Life” for those ages 16 and older.
