Man charged with shattering glass pane

DeKALB – A 33-year-old DeKalb man upset over being arrested early Sunday picked up another charge when he shattered a pane of glass in a door at the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St., police said.

Patrick Sekule of the 100 block of Joanne Lane was charged with criminal damage to state-supported property, a felony typically punishable with probation or up to three years in prison. He posted 10 percent of his $3,500 bond and is next due in court Oct. 1.

Sekule was at the municipal center about 6 a.m. Sunday after being charged with an ordinance violation and marijuana possession, court records show. After posting bail on those charges, he kicked the door on his way out, shattering the glass window, court records show. He then started running.

He was caught about two blocks away and told police he didn’t mean to kick the door, court records show. The incident was captured on video.
