Senior athlete Q&A: Wheaton Warrenville South's Isaiah Campos

WHEATON – Wheaton Warrenville South senior Isaiah Campos has seized the lead back role with a pair of outstanding performances the past two weeks.

Coming off a 123-yard performance against Maine South in Week 2, the running back rushed for 137 yards in Friday’s 17-13 victory over Wheaton North.

He also gave the home team the lead for good with a six-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. Campos spoke with Wheaton Leader sports reporter Scott Schmid about the win over the Falcons and his team’s fast start.

What was the team’s mentality coming into this season?

We were so hungry after not making the playoffs last year.

During the offseason, we had a lot of time to think about what we wanted to do this season.

How special is the win over Wheaton North?

It’s a really big win but we are still not satisfied. We are trying to get back to the state championship game at Northern Illinois.

What has been the key to getting the running game on track over the past two weeks?

We all came together as a group after the Glenbard West game.

We knew if we wanted to win games, we had to get a running game established.

The offensive line has really stepped up. I knew they could be great this year.
