Montini senior wide receiver Tyler Tumpane has been a big part of the Broncos’ 7-0 start to the season. He had a breakout game against Marian Central in Week 7 with 157 yards receiving and four total touchdowns to help the Broncos win 40-35. Tumpane entered the game with four touchdowns and doubled his season total. Tumpane, the Oak Trust Credit Union Athlete of the Week, spoke with sports reporter Dan Santaromita about his big performance after the Marian game.
What does the Marian Central game mean to you?
We definitely wanted to come out strong and prove to the whole conference that we wanted to be the best.
Was it a good win for the team?
It got a little sloppy towards the end. We gotta be more fundamentally sound in some areas, but we’ll pick it up and make a good run in the playoffs.
Your 80-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter came one play after Marian had tied the game. What happened on that play that opened up for you?
We saw where it was open deep and we were able to execute.
Have you had a four touchdown game before?
No. This is my first one. Maybe I had three in a game my sophomore year.
