Hinsdale Central's boys cross country team beat out 25 other high school teams to take home a 3A state championship, according to the Illinois High School Association.
The team had three finishers in the top 25, lead by senior Billy Magnesen who clocked in at a 14:41 pace. Seniors Kevin Huang (15:01) and T.J. Caveney (15:02) rounded out the effort.
Hinsdale Central's 99 points made for a sizeable advantage over the rest of the field – the next-closest was Downers Grove North with 144 points. Other notable local teams were York Community High School in Elmhurst in fifth, Wheaton Warrenville South in eighth, Naperville North at ninth and Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville rounded out the top 10.
The highest local performer was Zack Smith at Downers Grove North, whose 14:23 time put him in third place by only two seconds. York High School's Nathan Mroz took fifth, Ryan Clevenger of Downers Grove North seventh and Angel Estrada of Highland Park took 10th.
