AMBOY – Wilbur D. Smith, 80, of Amboy, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Green Acres Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Amboy.
He was born June 29, 1933, in Amboy the son of Wilbur R. and Freda L. (White) Smith. He was a veteran of the Army. He had been a farmer, and had worked at Conkey’s in Mendota.
He is survived by three sons, Rodney Smith of Dixon, Mark (Donna) Smith of Lee Center, and Howard Smith of Amboy, 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Steven Rockwood of Rockford and Richard (Linda) Rockwood of Dixon; a stepdaughter, Kathy (Carroll) Freeman of Dixon; a brother, Wayne (Etta) Smith of Amboy; and sister, Shirley (John) Ehman of Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his son Scott Smith; his parents; a brother, William “Bill” Smith; and a sister, Mary Ellen McLindsay.
Graveside services, with military honors accorded by the Amboy American Legion Post, will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 4 at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy, with Rev. Roger Carlson officiating. Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy is handling arrangements,.
