Roger L. Huffman

DIXON – Roger Lee Huffman, 77, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He was a lifelong farmer in the Lee County area.

Roger was born Dec. 4, 1936, in Dixon, the son of Lee and Margaret (Janssen) Huffman. He served in the Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Roger married Evelyn Simmons on Jan. 31, 1959, in Crestview, Fla. She preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 1993. He married Shirley (Piller) Schafer on Aug. 1, 1998, in Dixon. Roger attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Huffman of Dixon; one daughter, Julie (Rick) Miller of Dixon; two stepdaughters, Debra (Dave) Didier of Amboy and Kathy (John) Stanley of Roscoe; one stepson, Randy (Kim) Schafer of California; one grandson, Ryan (Tara) Mackey of Dixon; seven stepgrandchildren, Zack Schafer of California, Jordan, Andrew, Taylor, and Dylan Stanley of Roscoe, and Jenna and Alex Didier of Amboy; one great-grandson, Derek Mackey of Dixon; and three step-great-grandchildren, Scarlett Schafer, Toby Bolin, and Penelope Bolin, all of California.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; and one step-grandson, Nicholas Schafer.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Frank Langholf, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

A memorial has been established to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Youth Group. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
