William L. ‘Bill’ Schmidt

DIXON – William L. “Bill” Schmidt, 74, of Dixon, formerly of the Quad Cities area, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. He worked and Boynton Richards Clothing Store in Dixon, and then for Marshall Salon Services for 49 years.

Bill was born March 22, 1939, in Morris, the son of Hugo and Lois (Yuppie) Schmidt. He was a veteran of the Army. Bill married Patricia Schultz on Oct. 7, 1967, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William P. Schmidt of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mark Schmidt of Montrose, Colo.; one daughter, Sheila Smeltzer of Shallotte, N.C.; two granddaughters, Sadie and Isabelle Smeltzer; three brothers, James (Julia) Schmidt of Morrison, Colo., and Thomas (Maureen) Schmidt and David (Patricia) Schmidt, both of Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edward Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Visitation also will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday and the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas Bales, pastor, officiating. Burial, with military honors conducted by the Amboy American Legion, will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy.

Memorials have been established to the Dixon Rural Fire Department, Genesis Heart Institute in Davenport, Iowa, Rock Island Alleman Catholic High School, and Seton Catholic Grade School in Moline.
