Limacher wins Lincoln Award

Billie Limacher of Joliet receives the Lincoln Award from Illinois State Travel Director Jan Hoelzle and Bill Kurtis.

JOLIET – Billie Limacher has received a Lincoln Award from the Illinois Office of Tourism.

Limacher, 92, whose name is on Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park, received the award Monday at the Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism.

Lincoln Awards are given in recognition for efforts to promote tourism. Limacher had been nominated by Robert Navarro, chief executive officer of the Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“This honor was well deserved,” Joliet Mayor Thomas Giarrante said in a statement announcing the award. “Nobody works harder than Billie Limacher for the Bicentennial Park and for tourism.”

Limacher led the effort to establish Bicentennial Park and continues to oversee the park as president of Will-Joliet Bicentennial Park Inc. The park includes an indoor theater and outdoor band shell.
