GRANVILLE — Robert Clausen, 86, of Granville passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. He was born June 27, 1927, in rural McNabb to Hans and Effie (Paulsen) Clausen. He attended the Centerville (rural) school and Hopkins High School.
On Dec. 18, 1949, he married Sharon Hamm at Hennepin United Methodist Church. Together, they had four sons: Daniel, David, Jon and Mark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Sinius Hansen; a sister (Elaine Reed), a brother (Edwin Clausen), an infant son (David Clausen), an adult son (Mark Clausen), a granddaughter (Christina Clausen) and a great-granddaughter (Madison).
He is survived by his wife (Sharon Clausen), a sister (Donna Stinson), two sons (Daniel and Jon Clausen) and their wives (Tina and Teresa), a daughter-in-law (Jacqueline Clausen), eight grandchildren (Katherine, Erika, Dana, Colin and Theresa Clausen, Elizabeth Kampaus, and Eli and Ben Clausen), four stepgrandchildren (Jill and Seth Holocker, Rylan Schimelpfenig and Brandy Whitecotton Strickland) and two stepgreat-grandchildren (Cierra and Kylie Strickland).
He lived and farmed in Putnam County his entire life. At one point he farmed in Bureau, LaSalle and Putnam counties. The farm that he eventually owned was one mile from where he was born.
He was a member of the Putnam County Historical Society, Hennepin Development Inc. and Sioux Prairie Farms. He was a member of the Board of the Farm Bureau and Emmaus Lutheran Church Board in McNabb, where he was a Sunday school teacher and his grandfather, Christian Paulsen, was one of the original founders. He was a 4-H leader for the Granville-Hennepin Pacesetters.
He loved music and travel — having been to every state but Alaska, and many foreign lands.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal friend to many.
Memorials may be directed to Putnam County Historical Society or Emmaus Lutheran Church in McNabb.
Visitation will be at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 19 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 20.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 20 at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville. A gathering for family and friends for a time of sharing will be held at the United Methodist Church in Hennepin at noon.
