Elmhurst resident named Wirtz Realty VP

ELMHURST – Don Vitek of Elmhurst was recently named senior vice president at Wirtz Realty.

The company, owned by Chicago Blackhawks principal owner Rocky Wirtz, is investing more than $20 million in its residential properties, according to a company news release.

Vitek spoke with Suburban Life reporter Mari Grigaliunas about his new position at the organization.

Grigaliunas: How did your previous experience as senior vice president of the Real Estate Management Group at Draper and Kramer prepare you for this position?

Vitek: At Draper and Kramer I handled a wide range of responsibilities. I began in asset management, and then I moved into development and ultimately moved into management. I had experience in many, many issues. I was there for 17 years. Draper and Kramer is a family owned organization that has ownership interests. I was able to work on real estate always with a long-term owner.

Grigaliunas: What is the biggest difference between your new position and your previous jobs?

Vitek: The biggest difference is the focus is different. The focus at Wirtz is more narrow. My priorities are to maximize the value of the longterm real estate holdings and to assist our affiliates in maximizing the value of their real estate. More focused, more narrow and more fast-paced environment.

Grigaliunas: What attracted you to Wirtz Realty Corporation?

Vitek: First the reputation of the Wirtz organization is stellar. The opportunity to work in an organization which is so highly regarded.

Grigaliunas: What do you think most people wouldn’t expect you do at your job?

Vitek: One thing I would say is in real estate you end up needing to know a little bit about virtually everything. There are so many facets to a real estate development that are important to the success of a development. It’s really important to have communication with a network, find good consultants and work broadly with a wide range of experts.

Grigaliunas: What do you like most about your job?

Vitek: What I like most about my job is it’s varied. It’s so interesting. Real estate is complex and multi-faceted. There’s always some way to add value. I really love the challenge of coming and providing a valuable contribution to a very important portfolio.

Grigaliunas: What do you like most about Elmhurst?

Vitek: Elmhurst is just a terrific community and I love just about everything about it, especially the people.
