McDonald’s ready to rebuild?

Inspector says city awaits request for building permit

ROCK FALLS – Plans in the works for more than 2 years to tear down and rebuild McDonald’s at 1003 First Ave. seem to be coming to a head.

Although the corporate office has not yet contacted the city with a schedule, plans for the rebuilt restaurant have been submitted and approved, and requests for bids have been issued by the company, Rock Falls building inspector Mark Searing said Friday.

City officials are prepared to issue a building permit, Searing said. He expects that request to come soon, since corporate “suits and ties have been scrambling around over there a lot” lately.

McDonald’s has not responded to numerous emailed requests for comment.

The corporation rebuilds its buildings when they reach a certain age, as it did with the Sterling restaurant in 2000, Searing said last April, when the project was announced.

Although some McDonald's are owned and operated by franchisees – for example, Chuck and Nancy Plock of Dixon own the Dixon, Sterling and Oregon restaurants – the company owns the Rock Falls site, Nancy Plock said Friday.
