BARRINGTON – Barrington Fire Lieutenant Bruce Peterson is to be sworn in as the village's assistant fire chief as of Monday evening.
Peterson began his career with the Barrington Fire Department as a paid-on-call firefighter in 1986 before being hired full-time in 1988.
In 2007, Peterson was promoted to the rank of fire lieutenant.
Peterson has been long involved with the start up of 911 services in the area, including with the Emergency Telephone Services Board, Community Emergency Response Team, Computer-Aided Dispatch and Barrington Fire Department part-time program, according to Barrington Fire Chief Jim Arie.
With Peterson's promotion, Ed Hartman will return to the rank of lieutenant. Hartman has been staffed as a firefighter-paramedic since the village fire department downsized Jan. 1.
