SARASOTA, Fla. — Douglas E. Conley passed away Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Magnolia Nursing Home in Sarasota, Fla.
He was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Princeton to Clarence and Edith (Holman) Conley. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1945 and was a Navy veteran in World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
Douglas and Joyce Hulteen were married July 4, 1950, in Princeton. He was employed with DeKalb Ag for two years and moved with his family to Sarasota, Fla., in 1954. He was a draftsman, architect and construction superintendent for W.G. Mills and Co. in Sarasota, Fla., until his retirement.
He enjoyed water skiing, bass fishing, sailing and flying his Cessna 170 airplane. He and his family were active members of the Sarasota Bayfront Skiers and Ski-e-rees, and he was a judge for many ski tournaments in the surrounding area, including Cypress Gardens and the Bahamas.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Joyce of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, Bradley and Steven of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren, Ashley and Shawn of Sarasota, Fla.; one great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Joanne (Roger) Swan of Princeton, Doris (Dr. J.T.) Vieira of Indianapolis, Ind., and Marcia (Bob) Hudson of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Max W. Conley.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
