DIXON – Herbert Axel Youngren Jr., 85, of Dixon, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Heritage Square in Dixon. He worked at Hey Brothers Ice Cream from 1954 to 1971, and then owned and operated Youngren Refrigeration in Dixon from 1971 to 1994.
Herbert was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Waukegan, the son of Vivian (Denman) and Herbert A. Youngren Sr. He married Mildred Louise Boynton on Oct. 17, 1948, in Dixon. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2009. Herbert served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon, and a 20-year member of the Dixon Noon Lions Club.
Survivors include two sons, Randall (Teresa) Youngren of Bellingham, Washington, and Ronald (Marian) Youngren of Dixon; one brother, William (Glenda) Youngren of North Chicago; one sister, Dorothy Roberts of Zion; six grandchildren, Candice (Ryan) Kennedy, Amanda (William) Morton, Phillip Youngren, Erik (Christy) Youngren, Ian (Courtney) Youngren, and Colton Youngren; and eight great-grandchildren, Malcolm, Duncan, Lucy, Mark, Brooke, Addyson, Carter, and Karley.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Youngren; two grandsons, Cory James Youngren and Joseph Youngren; and one brother, George Youngren.
Memorial services will be at a later date at Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon. Burial of cremains will be at East Jordan Cemetery in Sterling.
Memorials have been established to Grace United Methodist Church and Heritage Square, both in Dixon.
