John Barkley

WYANET — John C.  Barkley, 83, of Wyanet died on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

John was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Wyanet to John Calvin and Pearl (Johnson) Barkley. He married Carolyn Fiste on Aug. 17, 1974, in Wyanet.

He graduated from Wyanet High School and served in the U.S. Army.

John was a retired rural mail carrier for U.S. Post Office, a gas and service station owner, businessman and member of the school board in Wyanet. He was a member of the American Legion in Princeton, VFW in Wyanet and Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Wyanet; four sons, Michael Barkley of Wyanet, Kelly (Marianna) Barkley of Princeton, Steven (Susan) Cruse of Windsor, Wis., and Ronald (Lisa) Cruse of Geneva; one daughter, Julie (Tim) Farraher of Princeton; two brothers, Arnold "Jim" Barkley of Peoria and Bernard "Bunk" Barkley of Washington, Ill.; one sister, Thershea Warren of Cuba, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald Barkley and Donald Rhea; and one sister, Judy Young.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with Mark Manning officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Wyanet, with full military rites.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the funeral home. There will be an additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the service time at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the American Legion in Princeton.

Pallbearers will be Quinton Barkley, Kari Colvin, Jon Colvin, Matthew Cruse, Jake Farraher and Braxton Cruse. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley Farraher, Alyssa Cruse, Dexter Cruse, Raelyn Colvin, Ella Colvin and Macy Barkley.
