Janice M. Anderson

LYNN CENTER – Janice M. Anderson, 86, of Lynn Center, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Janice was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Prophetstown, the daughter of Otto and Minnie (Crosell) Munson. She graduated in 1944 from Tampico High School. After graduating in 1948 from Illinois State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in education, Janice was a commercial (bookkeeping, typing, and shorthand) teacher until 1951 for the Orion School District. She taught from 1953 to 1955 at the former Sheffield High School. Janice married Richard H. Anderson on June 18, 1955, in Prophetstown. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2005. Together, they farmed in the Ophiem and Lynn Center areas.

After raising her family, she returned to teaching in 1969, and taught third grade at Alwood Elementary School. She retired in 1988. Janice was a very active member at Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem. She was the president of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and a former church council member and Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of the Ophiem American Legion Auxiliary. Janice and Richard enjoyed traveling in their motor home. In her later years, she loved spending time with her family, most especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Dwayne (Pamela) Anderson of Lynn Center, Darla (Cliff) Kieser of Belvidere, and Dale (Jill) Anderson of Farmington, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Alyssa and Austin Anderson, Brent (Vail), Ryan (Heather), and Kristin (fiancée, Oskar Ibarra) Kieser, and Charles and Matthew Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Doris Munson, Florence Fanning, Violet Long, Perry Munson, Jewel Renner, Otto G. Munson, and George William Munson in infancy; and her first husband, Robert Bealer of Sterling in November 1952, whom she married in April 1951.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home, 1301 Fourth St., Orion. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, 115 Main St., Ophiem. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery in Orion.
