Merle Meiners

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Merle Meiners, 80, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, formerly of Whiteside County, went to be with his Maker on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Merle was born July 12, 1934, in Sterling, to Raymond and Alice (Hinrichs) Meiners. He was a lifelong farmer in Whiteside County. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hot Springs. Merle served in the Army and was a veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges in Hot Springs.

Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Barbara Meiners; his children, Jim (Jan) Meiners, Dawn (Jeff) Wilson, Paula Deyo, Marla (Dave) Gatz, and Amy (Chris) Huffman; his stepchildren,Teresa (Dave) Johnson and Elisabeth Templeton; his daughter-in-law, Ronda Franklin; his brother, Lyle (Phyllis) Meiners; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sara Meiners; and his stepson, Duke Franklin.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morrison, with Mike Winkelman, pastor, officiating. Hot Springs Funeral Home in Hot Springs is handling arrangements.
