Husband and wife physicians dedicated to treating the entire family at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center

When Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center asked Drs. Muneeb Qadri and Mahwesh Javed to open a practice together the married couple knew it would be a perfect fit.

“We had done our residency together and we’re both primary care physicians,” said Qadri so it worked great for us.”

The couple opened their family practice office Sept. 2, just north of the hospital in Joliet.

As husband and wife, they take a team approach to treating entire families, from infants to geriatrics, making it easier to develop a level of comfort and trust.

“When you work together you can bounce ideas off each other and talk about treatment plans.” Qadri said.

“We are a family, and we’re happy to treat other people’s families,” Javed explained. “Having our own children makes us better taking care of children. ”

They also share the same philosophies.

“Ultimately, outside the medicine part,” Qadri said, “it’s about building relationships with people, and that’s what a primary care physician is all about.”

Qadri and Javed take a preventative approach to health care promoting healthy lifestyles.

“Some doctors focus on medication to treat problems,” Qadri said. “We’re more in tune to overall health and nutrition, exercise and well being.”

Each physician brings additional specialties to their practice. Dr. Qadri deals in sports medicine - musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis and the like, and is also certified to perform Dept. of Transportation (DOT) exams required for certain jobs.  Dr. Javed completed a one-year fellowship in maternal and child health and is a certified lactation consultant.

“We practice full-circle medicine, and we have wonderful specialists through the Presence network to refer patients who need specialty care,” Javed said.
