Roundup: Balanced effort leads Minooka High School volleyball to win

OSWEGO – Contributions from evey position helped Minooka’s girls volleyball team defeat Southwest Prairie Conference rival, Oswego, 25-12, 25-18, on Tuesday night.

Leaders for Minooka (13-5, 8-3 SPC) included Ginger Perinar (11 kills, 5 digs), Allison Papesh (9 kills, 3 aces, 2 digs), Jessica Karalow (6 kills, 2 digs), Emily Hise (3 kills), Kelly Clucas (23 assists, 2 kills) and Aly Gagnon (5 digs).

“We started pretty sloppy, but then we found our groove,” Minooka coach Christine Hoelscher said. “Our serve receive stepped up, and we defended very well. [Assistant ] coach Emily Soto really had our servers attacking Oswego’s passers.

“This was a great team effort all the way around.”

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Coal City 21-25-25, Sandwich: 25-21-22: Rebecca Cash led Coal CIty (12-11, 4-5) to the Interstate Eight win with 10 kills, 13 digs and two aces, while Nicole Borgetti had six kills, 17 digs and two blocks. Makenzie Bugg had 24 assists, 12 digs, two blocks and six kills.

Seneca 25-25, Herscher 20-15: Lexi Wilkinson had seven kills, 15 service points and three aces to lead the Irish (22-3-1, 6-2) to the Interstate Eight win Tuesday. Emily Woods had four kills, while Madison Wyss had six assists, six points, four digs and three kills. Jessi Clubb led the team with 12 digs.

Newark 25-26, Indian Creek 13-24: Rachel Lape led Newark with eight kills. while Kelsea Zitt had four kills and two aces. Lexi Zezanski had three kills, while Missy Friestad had 19 assists.

Gardner-South Wilmington 25-25, St. Anne 9-14: The Panthers (14-6, 6-4) swept the Cardinals in River Valley Conference play for the season. Leading the Panthers was Marlana Ferrari with five kills, while Emily Foley distributed five assists. Foley had six aces and Ferrari and Bryanna DeMoraes had three aces each. Sophie Barna and Lexi Posing each had seven digs.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Amboy Invitational: Gardner-South Wilmington’s Daly Galloway finished first out of more than 600 runners in the girls race, completing the course in 16:52. The Seneca girls team took fourth overall out of 28 teams.

BOYS GOLF

Tee time for McPherson: Morris’ Nick McPherson will tee off from the 10th tee at the Weibring Golf Course in the first round of the IHSA Class 2A state tournament. at 10:18 a.m. Friday in Normal.
