DIXON – Joseph E. "Joe" Lybarger, 85, of Dixon, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at his home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Chester, the son of Iva Simmons and stepfather, CP Simmons. Joseph graduated from Dixon High School. He went on to serve in the National Guard as a communications specialist, and deployed to Japan and Korea during the Korean War. On his return to Japan from Korea, Joe served as a fireboat captain. Upon returning to the U.S., he married his beloved wife, Juanita Stafford, on Oct. 21, 1954.
During his life, Joe mastered several professions, including but not limited to his own self-employed contracting business. Later, he retired from BorgWarner after 18 years as an electrician. Joe lived a full life of several passions. He loved boating and traveling with his wife. He was an accomplished marksman, and when at home, he occupied himself over the years with horses, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and photography. Joe's honesty, dependability, and integrity will forever be remembered and respected by those who loved him.
Survivors include three children, Joe (Dianna) Lybarger of Mount Morris and Stephen (Sonya) Lybarger and Anthony (JoAnne) Lybarger, both of Dixon; four grandchildren, Brandy (Casey) Jones, Christopher (Bri) Lybarger, Jamie Lybarger, and Felicia (Ryan) Schauff; and four great-grandchildren, Ande and Miriya Jones, Olivia Schauff, and Alex Lybarger.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his sister, Wanda DeLucaney.
Per Joseph's request, there will be no visitation or services. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial stone will be established in his honor in 2015 at Veterans Memorial Park in Dixon. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon handled arrangements.
