NEW LENOX – For 28 years, students Lincoln-Way Central in New Lenox students have participated in the Bridge Building contest. This year’s contest was Dec 11. Sixty-one bridges qualified for the competition this year.
First place went to Emmalee Pentek whose bridge achieved an efficiency of 1733.9; second place went to Joe Markus with an efficiency of 1506.0; third place was earned by Joshua Ingalls with an efficiency of 1368.2; fourth place went to Luke Larson with an efficiency of 1352.1.
Emmalee is a junior; Joe, Joshua and Luke are all seniors. Each bridge is tested by a science teacher for weight, mass and efficiency as the students are checked into the contest.
The four students who won will compete in the Regional Bridge Building contest at Illinois Institute of Technology on Jan. 27. Winners of the regional competition will advance to the International Bridge Building competition held this spring.
