The younger sister of former Glenbard South standout Nevena Markovic, Ivana Markovic has carved out quite a career for herself in a Raiders uniform. The senior is in her fourth year on varsity and is one of the experienced leaders on a squad that is currently 13-3 overall and undefeated in the Metro Suburban conference. On Jan. 9, she tallied 18 points and four rebounds in a 58-46 victory against IC Catholic. Markovic, the Wheaton Bank & Trust Athlete of the Week, spoke with Wheaton Suburban Life sports reporter Scott Schmid about the victory and the keys to a strong second half.

Schmid: What were your overall thoughts about the win over IC?

Markovic: They are a good team. We didn't play our best in the first half but picked it up a little bit in the second half. Overall, it was a good effort.

Schmid: What is the experience like playing with such an experienced and close-knit group?

Markovic: It's a lot of fun. We all get along very well and we've got a lot of senior leadership. We are old.

Schmid: Was it tough to come back from an extended break after the Wheaton North Christmas tournament?

Markovic: It was a little bit. We came out a bit rusty against Willowbrook (on Jan. 6). We were hoping to pick it up [against IC] and we did a little bit.

Schmid: What are the keys to continued success?

Markovic: We've got to keep working on the defensive end and communicate and keep playing together.
