Glenbard East names new principal

LOMBARD – Glenbard East High School Assistant Principal for Instruction Shahe Bagdasarian will be the Lombard school's next principal.

The Glenbard Township High School District 87 Board of Education approved Bagdasarian's appointment at a meeting Monday. He will begin his new role July 1, when current Principal Josh Chambers moves to the district office as assistant superintendent for human resources.

The board selected Bagdasarian after a comprehensive search and selection process that involved many qualifiied candidates, according to a district news release.

"His experience as a dean, assistant principal for student services and assistant principal for instruction give him a broad perspective and ability to address a variety of needs," Superintendent David Larson said in the release.

Bagdasarian became Glenbard East’s assistant principal for instruction in 2013.  He previously was the assistant principal for student services at Glenbard East for four years. Before coming to Glenbard in 2009, Bagdasarian was a dean of students and special education teacher at York Community High School in Elmhurst.

Bagdasarian is working on his doctorate degree in educational leadership at the University of Illinois. He has both a master’s degree and bachelor's degree in special education.

In the release, Bagdasarian said he plans to focus on Advanced Placement participation, summer school programming and Glenbard's relationship with its feeder districts as principal.

“I am honored and humbled to have been named the next principal of Glenbard East High School, a school that is blessed to have exceptional faculty, outstanding students and a supportive community,” Bagdasarian said.

The community is invited to meet Bagdasarian during a reception at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the library at Glenbard East, 1014 S. Main St.
