SPRING VALLEY — Hall High School students took second place in the regional WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering), earning a spot at the sectional competition at Illinois Central College in East Peoria in March.
Students competed in the areas of English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and computer science. Individual winners from Hall were: Lindsey Choate, first place in English; Ashley Choate, second place in computer science; Marco Uribe, first place in computer science; and Luke Lee Brown, second place in chemistry and third place in biology.
Students receiving a first- or second-place finish move onto the sectionals, and teams finishing first or second overall advance as a team to sectionals. Teams are broken down by size: 300, 700 and 1,500. Hall competes at the 700 level.
The remaining members of Hall’s team are Al Baldonado, A.J. Gaeta, Evan Kiphart, Michael Martin, Kyle May, Andrew Pullam, Tyler Pullam, Elizabeth Roe, Josephine Wales and Jacob Wertz. This is Luke Lee Brown’s third year medaling in science at the regional level. Last year he received third in chemistry at the sectional level. Hall WYSE coach is Teresa Colmone.
